The ASWB is updating the licensing exam beginning in August 2026, and the changes are significant enough that we wanted to make sure everyone knows what’s coming.

The new exam format includes:

• Fewer questions (a total of 122 instead of 170)
• More three-option questions
• A stronger emphasis on applied judgment, prioritization, and clinical reasoning rather than straightforward recall
• Three content areas instead of four

To match those changes, SWTP now includes a brand-new set of practice exams written specifically for the August 2026 content outline and format.

If you already have an active account, the updated exams will appear automatically — no additional action required by you. If you're purchasing new exams, select August 2026 Format on checkout to get the new tests.

Note: The current ASWB exam version remains in use until August 3. If your exam date is before then, continue preparing with the current-format exams.

The new August 2026 practice exams include:

• Question number, distribution, and weighting aligned to the updated outline
• Rationales with greater emphasis on decision-making and applied reasoning
• A focus on prioritization, ethics application, best-next-step thinking, and clinical judgment

One of the biggest shifts in the updated exam is the move away from simple memorization. Knowing the material still matters, but the ability to interpret situations, evaluate options, and reason through the question is becoming even more important.

Happy studying and good luck on the exam!
