UPDATE: DSM-5 (2013) introduced several changes which are crucial to note here: Diagnoses that were under the pervasive developmental disorders category were merged into autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Two diagnoses--childhood disintegrative disorder and Rett syndrome--were removed.
